Vaastu Principles - Just in Brief
"Vaastu" has become a subject matter for discussion these days. Subject as such is not new. It is well known that it is an ancient construction science. From the beginning of 90's some how it attracted everybody's attention and since then is a topic for discussion. Really speaking there is nothing to discuss about. It is a science by itself, directly related with nature, earth's magnetic field that is unvisible but powerful force, which affects the man's life. The earth is ruled or governed by the eight directions. Dishas and these are South East ( Source of Health ), South ( Source of

Wealth & Happiness), South West (Source of Character, Behavior, Cause of Longevity & Death), West (Source of Name, Fame, Prosperity), North West (Source of Business, Friendship, Enmity), North (Source of Female Issues), North East (Source of Health & Prosperity). The Vaastu science thus mainly deals with the natural needs of the man for living, like weather, winds, light etc., and the restrictions or passage of these natural sources in the dwelling. Every one needs happiness, peace of mind, good health and the prosperity, which Vaastu Shastra - a part of Vedic Literature - Assured, if the positioning of doors, windows, walls, and water tanks was adhered to as prescribed. The concept of Vaastu is described in the diagrams of the Vaastu Purusha Mandala where the man is general by all the forces of the cosmos.

The idea of this article is just to give in brief the basic principles of vaastu and not to discuss merits or demerits of the ancient science or to compare the same with modern concepts of buildings / construction science. Details regarding positioning of windows, doors, gates, etc. in details are proposed to be given in the next article.
