Development of potential growth centers
|
Three growth centers at Dharwad,
Hassan (implemented by KIADB) and Dharwad (implemented by KSIIDC) with a total outlay of
Rs. 120 crores are already approved. To expedite the speedy completion of works and to
provide quality infrastuctural facilities the government of Karnataka has welcomes
participation of private sector in water supply schemes, captive power generation
stations, etc. following measures are being undertaken in this direction.

Growth
centers will be provided with captive power generation stations to be managed by
KIADB/KSIIDC and or in the private/public sector. Government /KEB will approve such
projects and permit them to distribute the power to the consumers within the growth
centers. Surplus power, if any, will be purchased by KEB under mutually agreeable terms
and conditions.
For water
suppply schemes, KIADB implement agency will be permitted to draw water from the nearby
water source and these agencies would fix suitable water rates to the consumers to recover
capital/recurring expentidure.
In
addition to the three growth centers mentioned above, KIADB will take up mini growth
centers at Bijapur, Malur, Kolar, Chitadurga, Chikamagalur, Gadag, Nippani, Bellary and
other potential locations. An anciliary complex will be established in Thonagallu, Bellary
District, to cater to the needs of the major steel plant projects being established in the
district.
