Ajnabee is a suspense thriller that deals with the twist in
the lives of two couples. Raj (Bobby Deol) meets Priya (Kareena Kapoor), they fall in love
and get married. Raj gets selected as a coach for Polo Club in |
|
Switzerland and so they move there. They meet another couple
Vicky (Akhshay Kumar) and Sonia (Bipasha Basu) in Switzerland, who happen to be
their immediate neighbour. The two couple become good friends and spend lot of time
going out and partying together. On one instance when they all go out to Mauritius on a
holiday, Vicky suggests Raj to swap wives. Earlier, Raj was not comfortable with Sonia as
she had tried to seduce him but had ignored it totally keeping in mind their friendship.
Now, after getting to know Vicky's evil intentions, he gets furious and has a hand to hand
with Vicky thus compelling them to cut short their holidays and return to Switzerland. On
returning, Vicky and Sonia try their best to patch up with Raj and after much hesitation,
he agrees. They all become friends again till Vicky mentions once again his idea of
swapping |
|
wives on the occasion of his birthday. Though Raj is quite
high at the party, he still beats up Vicky but to his dismay finds Sonia in his room the
next day morning and that too dead!! This is when all fingers point at him and he lands up
in the custody of the police. He escapes and tries to gather evidence to prove his
innocence and in the process of doing so finds out the real murderer of Sonia. He is
amazed by his finding and this is when the story gets really interesting especially seeing
Sonia once again on the screen alive.
Ajnabee is yet another unusual and rare story by Abbas-Mustan. Their earlier releases like
Khiladi, B |

aazigar, Soldier and Chori
Chori Chupke Chupke in the past have clearly shown their talent in making |
|
movies with a new and rare storyline. The idea of swapping wives is very new to
the Indian crowd and that would become a major drawback for this movie. Ajnabee is said to
be inspired by the movie "Consenting adults". Anu Malik's music is good
and shall certainly attract the crowd to the theatres, especially "Mehbooba
mehbooba " sung by Sunidhi and Adnan Sami, the two most upcoming singers. "Mere
zindagi mein " and "Mohabbat naam hai jiska " are
the second best. The picturisation of these songs are also well-done. Performances by all
the stars is as per expectation. Bipasha Basu deserves special mention as this happens to
be her first movie. She has done a satisfactory job and has shown |
|
confidence. Johny Lever is good at his comedy but the
sequences of comedy are misplaced in the movie. Dalip Tahil isn't impressive. Unlike the
earlier movies of Abbas-Mustan, the screenplay here is bad. The dialogues by Shyam Goel
are well-penned. Cinematography is good being shot in the exotic
locales of Switzerland and Mauritius.
Finally, all that can be said about Ajnabee is that though the duo of Abbas-Mustan have
tried their hands on an extremely new subject and this very reason might become the
stumbling block on its success path.
