Bulandi

Maa Sheranwali Productions ‘Bulandi’ is a remake of Super Good Films' Tamil Presentation ‘Naattamai’. The film was later remade in Telugu by Telugu actor ‘Pedarayudu’. Wherein Super Star Rajnikanth had a small and significant role. Rajni’s presence in the film was the highlight and the film went on to become one of the biggest hits in the history of Telugu film industry. Anil Kapoor and his brother Boney Kapoor, who are always in the habit of looking towards successful South Indian films for remakes in Hindi, obtained the rights of the film through producer Yogesh. ‘Bulandi’ has Anil Kapoor in a double role. Rekha and Raveena Tandon are paired with him. Rajnikanth appears in the same role which he did in Telugu film and which was acted by Vijaya Kumar in the Tamil version.

Story: Thakur Dharmaraj (Anil Kapoor) is the head of the village panchayat. Known for his honesty and uprightness, he is respected not only in his village but also outside. His fair play in delivering justice is liked by the villagers. The Thakur has two brothers. Arjuna (Anil kapoor in another role) and Nakul (Harish) who worship him like god. Dharmaraj is married to a beautiful and sacrificing wife (Rekha).

The family presents a picture of harmony and peaceful co-existence. Arjun married a city bred girl (Raveena Tandon), and though there are some troubles it would be sorted out later. There is another family of Thakur’s in the village just itching for taking revenge against Dharmaraj’s family. Dharmaraj’s father Giriraj (played by Rajnikanth) would have banished this family from the village for their sins. But the Thakur’s family issues a sentence of banishment for arjun for a mistake not committed by him. When the truth comes to light, Dharmaraj is unable to bear the

shock and dies.

The music is by Viju Shah and the lyrics are written by Anand Bakshi.
