Movie Review:
Gadar
Starring: Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel
Producer: Zee Telefilms
Director: Anil Sharma

GADAR-EK PREM KATHA, tells the story of a truck driver, Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a Sikh, who falls in

love with a Muslim girl, Sakina (Amisha Patel).

There is this Hindu-Muslim riots in 1947 when Sakina is being chased by a murderous mob. This is when Tara Singh saves her, following which Sakina starts living in Tara's house. Eventually, they fall in love.

Sakina and Tara Singh get married and soon they have a baby-boy. Everything is fine till Sakina sees the photograph of her father

(Amrish Puri) in an old newspaper who then happens to be the Mayor of Lahore. All these days, Sakina had thought that her father was killed in the riots. But now, after knowing that he is alive, she calls him

from the Pakistani Consulate in Delhi. Her father immediately arranges her flying to Lahore. Tara Singh and the baby both have to stay back due to their visa formalities not being completed.

On reaching Lahore, Sakina discovers that her father does not have plans of sending her back to India. Rather, he wants her to marry a Pakistani there, join politics and forget all about India, Tara and her son. Meanwhile, Tara after a long wait, decides to

go to Lahore and get his wife back. On reaching Lahore, he faces the wrath of Sakina's father and her relatives.....

The movie is directed by Anil Sharma, the maker of films like Elan-e-jung, Hukumat and Maharaja. The music (Uttam Singh) is nothing great. None of the songs except "Musafir jaanewale" are hummable. The film as a whole can be said to be belonging to Sunny Deol. His performance is terrific. This movie comes as a change for him from playing the usual action man. Amisha Patel too gives clear indications of her talent. Amrish Puri has also done a good job in a negative role. Lillete Dubey is good as

usual. It would be unfair not to mention about the writer as most of the credit goes to him for his excellent recreation of the bygone era.

A must see for everyone.....
