Hathyar is yet another movie on underworld
by Mahesh Manjrekar. In fact it is a sequel to the movie Vaastav.
The story revolves around the family of the slain Raghunath Namdeo Shivalkar. It depicts
what the family of a gangster undergoes even after gangster himself no more exists.
Rohit (Sanjay Dutt) is the son of the late Raghunath who grows up under constant pressure
being continuously reminded of his father and his crimes. Though his mother (Namrata) and
grandmom ( |
|
Reema) try their best to keep him away from
the shadows of evil, he grows up to be an angry young man and enters the underworld |
through big-time political games. Thereafter
he loses most of his loved ones and even kills his friend (Sachin Khedekar) who stood by
him all the times. This murder was witnessed by his girlfriend who gets shocked seeing
this. Finally there is triumph of good over evil...
Hathyar is not half as effective as Vaastav.. This often is the fate of sequels since they
are always rated compared to the original movie.. Vaastav had more of emotions and less of
bloodshed whereas in Hathyar the latter predominates. That might become one of the reasons
for audience avoiding it. Technically the film is good. Music by Anand Raj Anand is
average . Performance wise |

Sanjay Dutt is the best. It seems
he is the only one fit for such roles. Sachin Khedekar deserves special mention, he has
performed |
|
very well. Reema Lagoo and Namrata Shirodkar
too have excelled. Shilpa Shetty has made it evident that she is capable of much more than
just dance numbers. Sharad Kapoor is OK. This movie has proved that Mahesh Manjrekar is
too good at making underworld-action based movies.
The movie will appeal to most in Mumbai since they can relate to such movies better.
