Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai is a remake of the
popular English hit "My Best Friend's Wedding" . The story |
|
revolves around Sanjay (Uday Chopra) who is
a happy go lucky guy and lives in Mumbai with his friend Ria (Bipasha Basu). He is a
cassanova and keeps falling in love and getting out of it easily. One fine day, he
receives a call from his childhood friend Anjali (Sanjana) who invites him for her
wedding. Suddenly, hell breaks loose on him as he realises that all this while Anjali was
his true love and foolishly he was wandering in search of it. So, he heads off to
Dehradun. There, he tries to win the hearts of Anjali's family members and this he tries
to accomplish by poisoning their minds against Rohit (Jimmy Shergill). Rohit is none other
than Sanjana's fiance, a handsome, educated, sophisticated NRI doctor. With time, Rohit
realises that Sanjay intentions are not good. There |
|
is a challenge between the two and the duo
leave the decision to Anjali. Sanjay tries all possible methods to make Anjali love him
and he even uses Ria to make Anjali jealous. He uses his friend to flirt with Rohit and
thereby make Anjali dislike Rohit. His plans work and Anjali just starts developing a
liking for him when he realises that he is wrong in his doings and leaves the place a day
before the wedding.
The story is just old wine in new bottle and the makers have tried their best to make it
different. They do succeed and the film comes across fresh and watchable. The screenplay
is tight and the |

movie is evenly paced. The director Sanjay
Gadhvi definitely deserves appreciation and it is sad that his earlier movie "Tere
Liye" though a light romance was not appreciated at all. Jeet Pritam's music is nice
and enjoyable, the top numbers being "Sharara" and "Resham Si Hai Yeh
Haaweiyen". Camerawork by Sunil Patel is good. Dialogues by Mayur Puri are witty.
Background music is good but loud.
Performance wise, all deserve decent amount of appreciation. Uday Chopra does imitate Shah
Rukh Khan and is good at doing so. He acts freely. His voice is a major drawback for him.
Jimmy |
|
is also good but not spontaneous. He looks
good and that is a plus point for him. Sanjana looks good only sometimes. She can be
termed as average. It would not be wrong to say that the film with experienced star cast
would have made a difference for sure. Bipasha Basu looks stunning and has a good screen
prescence. Others in the supporting cast are ok and make the film enjoyable.
On the whole, the movie can be watched and is expected to appeal to teenagers mostly.
