Nayak...

Nayak

Movie Review: Nayak
Starring:
Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerjee, Amrish Puri, Jonny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Shivaji Satam, Saurav
Shukla and Sushmita Sen in a special appearance.

Director:
Shankar.
Music:
A.R. Rahman.
Lyricist: Anand Bakshi.

Nayak is the story of Shivaji Rao (Anil Kapoor), a cameraman who brings into light all the latest happenings in the state. He is extremely sincere in his work and in one of the clashes between a bus driver and some

students, he shoots the happenings and even saves the life of the injured student. He gets promoted to the post of a senior television reporter and his first job becomes that of interviewing the Chief Minister, Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri). In the process of doing so, he questions the CM about the current state of affairs. The CM having thought that the interview will bring him publicity had agreed for it but then got enraged being unable to answer  Shivaji's genuine questions. Shivaji

Rao blames him and his ministry for all the problems in the state, to which the CM clearly disagrees. The reporter then displays proof of the CM's inefficiency. To this CM has no answer but to challenge Shivaji

Rao to become the Chief Minister for one day in order for him to realise the problems a Chief Minister has to face for all his actions. Shivaji Rao agrees to this proposal and thus begins the story of Nayak.

He immediately sets into action and starts with looking into the pending corruption files and thereafter dismisses all corrupt politicians.  Next, he decides to solve the problems of common man and sets up hotline and

booths to achieve this. His final step becomes that of suspending officials in his own cabinet and even arresting the former CM, Balraj Chauhan. That is how he ends his one day chief ministership but by then he has already captured the minds of all citizens with his good work. Needless to say that fresh elections

commence and the one-day chief minister, Shivaji Rao gets elected to the post with unprecedented majority. This leaves Balraj Chauhan and his other cabinet ministers fuming and they set into action planning all sorts of conspiracies against Shivaji Rao.

Earlier in one of his routine shoots, he had seen Manchali (Rani Mukherjee ) and her strength in speaking out the truth in front of the CM. It was love at

first sight for him to which Manchali had also clearly responded. All this while, Manchali becomes his support in his fight against injustice.

Balraj Chauhan and the other opposition party members join hands and decide to kill Shivaji Rao. They

remain unsuccessful and their second step becomes trying to ruin Shivaji Rao's reputation by creating havoc in the state. On learning this, Shivaji too gets into action and himself tries to prevent such situations happening. Paresh Rawal, the secretary to the CM proves to be the driving force always. In fact he is the major inspiration to Shivaji Rao in going against his mind and heart to become a Chief Minister. Shivaji, loses and sacrifices many things

and ultimately there is triumph of good over evil. Well, how this happens is something worth watching on the screen.

Nayak is a remake of the popular Tamil movie "Mudhalvan" which is also directed by Shankar. Shankar provides an insight into India's political scenario and the recurrent problems faced by Indians. He has done a good job and has laid his hands on a topic untried before and therefore succeeds in imbibing the fighting spirit into audience. The

script and the dialogues are very powerful and extremely well-written. Cinematography is excellent and stunts pulsating. All the songs have been picturised very well. Dialogue delivery by Paresh Rawal could

not have been better. Music by A. R. Rahman is good especially the numbers "Chalo chale mitwa" and "Shakalaka baby". The others are just OK. Performance by Anil Kapoor is very good and many of his scenes are indeed heart-touching. Rani Mukherjee in her new role as a simple village girl is good. Johnny Lever's comedy has not met the expectation level. Amrish Puri is good as usual but it is Paresh Rawal who steals the show. His dialogues are an eye-opener. Sushmita Sen and Pooja Batra have done justice to the small roles they have.

The drawbacks in the movie being the effort to club romance and seriousness which becomes a major factor for disappointment. Besides, there are a few

illogical sequences and many parts of the second half of the movie are just unnecessary and boring.

Overall, Nayak is a film for all Indians and they must watch it..........
