Caravan Hound
They were called Caravan Hound because they used to travel along with the caravans from place to place. This breed is known to be quite immune to many diseases and has plenty of stamina.The head is long and narrow and broad between the ears with a tapering muzzle. The jaws are long and poweful. The nose is large and black in colour.

The ears are long and hang close to the skull. The eyes are dark hazel in colour , they large and oval in shape. They are ever alert and keen. The neck is long clean and muscular and fits well into the shoulders, which are well-laid back. The forelegs are long, straight and well-boned. The dogs are 68-72 cms in height and the females are 64-68 cms tall. They are normally, gfawn,red, cream, black or interspersed with white.


Combai
The Combai is a pure bear hound, it is slightly shorter than the Rajapalayam, but appears heavier because of its built. The dog is usually red or brown with a black mask with a dark line along the back. They were used for hunting boar, bison and deer. History has it that these dogs were used as early as 9th century BC. when the Marawa

Kings ruled South India.


Banjara
These dogs have a slender body, a long and narrow face, a long and tapering tail & the coat is short and generally fawn or brown in color. They are 35-60 cms in height and 20-30 kgs in weight.


Bhutia
They are known for their strength and courage and are considered to be descendents of the Tibetian Mastiff. The coat is either black or brown in color and the tail is thick and hairy.They are 40-65 cms in height and 30-40 kgs in weight.


Gaddi
The dogs of this breed are well built and muscular, possess a short coat but the tails are hairy and the ears are short and curved. They are used as guard dogs. They are 45-70 cms in height and 25-50 kgs in weight.


Himalayan Sheep dog
As the name suggests, it is a herding breed. It has a broad face, small and drooping ears, coat is ivory white and smooth with a hairy and curled tail. This breed is native of Rajapalayam They are 40-50 cms in height and 30-40 kgs in weight.


Rajapalayam
This hunting dog has a tall and slender body, short and dense coat with a long and curled tail. It is a typical boar hound which was used for hunting wild boar and hare.

It is usually white in colour, the skin being pink. It has a deep chest. The hair is soft on the head but coarse on the body. It may be about 65cms. tall and about 25 kgs in weight. The dog needs plenty of freedom and space. Properly trained they make excellent guard dogs.


Rampur Hound
Rampur is a hamlet between Bareilly and Delhi. His Royal Highness Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur bred these dogs by combining the blood lines of very powerful but ferocious Tazi, brought in by the Afghans, and the English Greyhound that was more obedient but

lessresistant to the varying climatic conditions. He gave the name 'Rampur Hound' to the dogs he bred. This hound is powerfully built with strong jaws. The skull is broad. A powerful dog can bring down a large bull. The hound also hunts vermin, deer and jackals.
