But some of these can cause health hazards to
humans too. most internal parasites live in a dog's intenstines where they feed and
reproduce. A veterinarian should examine all puppies for parasites. The common parasites
are round worms and hook worms.
Round worms are pinkish white and curled like a thin coiled rope. They usually come out in
the animals feces or vomit. Roundworms can cause mild vomiting and diarrhea.Roundworm
larve can lie dormant in the muscle tissue of bitches and are activated during pregnancy.
They infect the unborn young ones. Most pups are born with round worms. An animal can
become very sick and even die if they carry heavy load of worms.
Tapeworms are long strips made of flat segments filled with eggs that break off from the
worm in the body . These segments can come out one at a time. Common sings of tapeworms
are small dried agg-sacs like rice grains in feces. Dogs are never born with tapeworms,
but can pick them up.
All adult dogs should be dewormed regularly, say every three months. Bitches should be
de-wormed before they mate and never during pregnancy. De-worming in puppies can be
started at the age of two weeks and you can have a healthy pet.
