Recipe > Chana Masala

Ingredients
Chick Peas 1 1/2 cup
Ginger Paste 3 teaspoons
Garlic Paste 3 teaspoons
Tomatoes 4 medium
Onions 2 medium
Turmeric (Haldi powder) 1 pinch
Chili Powder (Red Chili Powder) 1 teaspoon
Vegetable Oil 1/4 cup
Coriander seeds 1 tablespoon
Cloves (Whole) 4
Cinnamon Sticks (flat) 1 inch
Gasagasaalu (Poppy Seed, Khas Khas seeds) 3 teaspoons
Salt to taste

Method

  1. Make a soft paste of onion.
  2. Soak chick peas overnight and cook in sufficient water until cooked well.
  3. Grate onion and chop tomatoes.
  4. Powder the following and keep aside: coriander seeds, cloves, cinnamon and poppy seeds.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet and when oil is hot, add onion paste.
  6. Fry onion until it turns light brown.
  7. Now add chopped tomato, garlic and ginger pastes and cook on high heat for 5 minutes.
  8. Next add salt, turmeric, chili powder and above ground spice mix.
  9. Fry for two minutes and then add cooked chick peas and 2 cups of water.
  10. Cook for 25 minutes on medium heat or until gravy thickens.
