Recipe > Fish Curry (Andhra style)

Ingredients
Fish: 2 pounds
Vegetable Oil: 1/2 cup
Ginger Piece (1 inch in length): 2 inches
Garlic: 1 pod
Cloves (Whole): 4
Coriander seeds (crushed, powder): 6 teaspoons
Cardamom: 2
Tamarind concentrate: 4 tablespoons
Chili Powder (Red Chili Powder): 11/2 teaspoon
Turmeric (Haldi powder): 1/2 teaspoon
Curry Leaves: 12
Onions: 2 medium
Coriander Leaves (dhaniya): fistful
Salt to taste

Fish Curry

Method

  1. Make into a paste: ginger, garlic, cardammom, cloves, coriander seeds, onions.
  2. Gently mix the paste, salt, chili powder, turmeric and the fish pieces.
  3. So that the pieces are well coated with the spices and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet on medium heat, add curry leaves, coriander leaves and fry for two minutes.
  5. Then add fish pieces and fry for another 5 minutes. (DO NOT STIR OFTEN AS THE FISH PIECES CAN GET MUSHY).
  6. To this add tamarind paste mixed in two cups of water.
  7. Let it come to a boil, turn heat to low and cook for 15 minutes.
