Dil Chahta Hai is a story of three friends and their concept
of love. The three friends are Akash (Aamir |
|
Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Siddharth (Akshaye
Khanna). For Akash, love does not make any sense and he does not believe in marriage
either, for Siddharth, love is something that just happens and once it does nothing else
matters and for Sameer, love can be just anybody.
Now, these friends hang out together and enjoying each others company. The trouble arises
when there is a misunderstanding |
|
between Siddharth and Akash over a trivial issue. Akash
takes this to heart and finally leaves for Australia and looks after his father's business
there. There he meets Preity Zinta who he had barely known when he |
was in India. They become friends and this culminates into
love which of course, Akash expresses only at the end. Back in India, Siddharth gets busy
with his painting and his love Dimple Kapadia who happens to be older to him. Sameer with
his concept of love keeps falling for one after the other. In the end all the three
friends unite and sink their differences.
Dil Chahta Hai belongs to the debutant writer and director Farhan |
|
|
Akhtar who happens to be the son of two most famous writers of Bollywood, Javed
Akhtar and Honey Irani. Farhan has given this film a fresh look though many may not like
it and feel it is meant for the |
|
Hollywood crazy bunch. Farhan seems to be having a bright
future and does deserve decent amount of appreciation for his maiden venture.
The film has a splendid star cast and each one has performed too well. Aamir has again
stood up to his fans expectations and has blended well into the different roles his film
offers him. Saif Ali Khan comes as a wonderful surprise and has given one of his best
performances in his |
|
entire career. His expressions in many scenes are mind blowingly funny.
Akshaye Khanna's role though tough this time, he has managed to excel again and has proved
that he can be undoubtedly termed as |
one of the best performers of the era. He proves his
versatility as well. Preity Zinta looks glamorous and has acted well. Dimple Kapadia is
okay. Sonali Kulkarni is wasted and Suchitra Pillai is again okay.
Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran in Australian locales are a treat to the viewer's eyes.
Technically too, the film is of high standard.About the film , the first half is hilarious
but is very slow |
|
|
|
paced . It gains momentum only in the interval and therafter
gets serious. Dialogues are witty and funny. The publicity has helped the movie in making
it one of the impatiently awaited movies.
Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is extremely youthful, the popular tracks being "Jaane
kyon log pyaar karte hain", "Koi kahe, kehta rahe" and
"Tanhayee". The picturisation by Farha Khan is also brilliant. Computer graphics
have been used successfully in various scenes. |
|
Overall, Dil Chahta Hai will surely appeal to the elite group but unfortunately will fail
in the small centers because of its unusual storyline. |
