After "Gadar", it is "Indian" to prove Sunny Deol's
patriotism. Indian is about an honest and patriotic Police Commisioner Raj Shekhar Azad
(Sunny Deol) and his fight against the evil. Raj is married to Anjali
(Shilpa Shetty) and has two kids. Raj's fight is primarily focussed at foiling Wasim
Khan's (Mukesh Rishi's) |
|
plans who is a dreaded terrorist. Wasim happens to be a part
of the Lakshar -E-Jehadi group, a group feared all over the world. Raj manages to imprison
Wasim Khan. But, even in the prison Wasim manages to plan destruction and succeeds in
doing so. After continuous investigations, Raj discovers that many influential people of
the society are backing the terrorist out of which DCP Surya Pratap Singh (Raj Babbar) and
Shankar Singhania (Danny Denzongpa) are a few to name. Raj goes about destroying these
people one by one and in his attempt of doing so he is |
|
aided by four patriotic people who intend to join the police
force. The corrupt DCP Surya Pratap Singh (Raj Babbar), happens to be Anjali's father and
Raj's father-in-law. The twist in the story comes when Anjali discovers that it is Raj who
has killed her father. She leaves Raj. Raj's unabated fight against evil continues and he
goes about destroying these unfavourable elements with gusto. The film ends with good |
reigning over evil. Raj's final battle is resolved after lot
of difficulty.
Indian is a patriotic film and is Sunny Deol's home production. The film is written and
directed by N. Maharajan. The illustrations in the film are straight
out of everday life. Sunny Deol's bravura performance also adds spice to
the film. The stunts are vibrant and will surely appeal to the Indian masses.
Nevertheless, there are drawbacks in the film. The topic of fight of a police |
|
|
officer against terrorism has been witnessed time and again and hence this film
has nothing fresh to offer. Moreover, the film lacks romance and light moments to balance
it's seriousness. The length of the film too becomes another major drawback. Anand Raaj
Anand's music is of mixed variety in this film, the popular numbers being
"Deewana", " Jaana Maine Jaana" and "Thaat Nawabi".
"Watan waalon" has rich lyrics. |
|
Cinematography by A. Ramesh Kumar is quite good. Dialogues
by Sanjay S. Masoom are eye-openers. Performance wise, Sunny Deol is the best. Danny is
the second best and uplifts the film in the second half to an extent. Shilpa Shetty looks
gorgeous and dances gracefully but has no significant role to play. Raj Babbar too is
wasted. Mukesh Rishi is loud and Rahul Dev so-so. Shakti Kapoor has a very small role. The
others are OK. On the whole, INDIAN will certainly appeal to majority of the masses. The
fact that it released on the same date as that of Asoka |
|
is a demerit but since there are no releases for the next two weeks Indian
will plough on. |
