Jodi No. 1 is a story of two childhood
friends, Jay and Veeru. Both are professional cheaters and in one of their cheating
incident they have a scuffle with Tiger( Rajat Bedi) who happens to be the younger brother
of underworld don, Sir John ( Ashish Vidyarthi). This incident ends Tiger's accidental
death. After this Sir John is left with only mission in his life to find and kill Jay and
Veeru. |
|
Meanwhile, while escaping from John, Jay and Veeru meet a N.R.I. Vikramjit (Aasif Sheikh)
who is going |
to Goa on a business trip to his uncle
Raisaab (Anupam Kher). Jay and Veeru not only steal the NRI's baggage but also his
identity and get him arrested for traveling ticketless. Jay and Veeru come to Raisaab's
house and are dazed to see his palatial house and think that he is loaded with money, but
the reality is quite different.
Raisaab's family plans to move to the courts for |
|
|
their share of the property. Due to this, Raisaab suffers a heart
attack when he hears of these developments. But before being admitted to the I.C.U., he
entrusts the responsibility of his company to Jai |
|
and Veeru. He is convinced that only they
can save him from this mess.
Jai and Veeru are in a fix as what to do with the money, which they wanted to steal, as
Raisaab has made them the guardian of that wealth and ultimately they decide to stay and
protect Raisaab's business. They save his business and unite his family but then suddenly
one day, Jay and Veeru are featured in one of the episode of India's Most Wanted and now
the Police are after them. |
|
While John comes to know about their whereabouts and he also lands in Goa to take revenge.
|
What happens next, forms the crux of the
film.
This is for the third time that this trio (Sanjay-Govinda and David Dhawan) have come
together after Taaqatwar and Haseena Maan Jayegi. So the expectations are very high.
|
|
|
The story of the film has nothing new to say. In fact, people
have now stopped expecting anything from David Dhawan's films. Jodi No. 1 is no exception
to this. The script and screenplay are two areas where David Dhawan fails to do justice
and unlike his other Govinda flicks, the comic situations now seem very forced and stale.
However, few scenes are really enjoyable.
|
|
The gags and punches, which is David's
forte, are least exciting in Jodi No. 1. Moreover, all the songs in the film look like
they have been added just for the heck of it.
The director has taken lot of cinematic liberties, which are simply unbelievable. |
|
Unlike most David Dhawan films, which rely strongly on music,
this film has, at most, two songs, which will appeal to the crowds -- Ande mein anda and
Lal chunariya.
Actresses Twinkle Khanna and Monica Bedi might as well not have acted in the film. Their
existence in the film is not really justified what with two scenes apiece; the romantic
angle is unfathomable, limited to two songs. Both add to the glamour factor.
|
Performance-wise, Govinda is simply great. Sanjay Dutt is
lovable. Twinkle Khanna and Monika Bedi have nothing much to do. Anupam Kher is all right.
Ashish Vidyarthi is okay. Sayaji Shinde and Shakti Kapoor are wasted.
All said and done, Jodi No. 1 can be watched once. |
