Finally it has arrived after a long long
wait. "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" is all about loving your parents |
|
says writer-director Karan Johar.
Well, the story goes like this. Achala Sachdev is the matriarch of a reputed
"khandaan". Hers is a content, comfortable family life along with her son
Yashovardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan), daughter-in-law, Nandini Raichand (Jaya
Bachchan) and grandsons Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan). Yashovardhan
tries to pass on to his |
|
sons the values and rich traditions of his
family which he himself cherishes. Nandini, on the other hand teaches her sons the values
and meaning of love and has different dreams and aspirations for them. The brothers are
much in love with each other with the younger one doting on his big brother. Nandini is
very attached to Rahul as he is an adopted child and Rahul too knows that he is not the
own son of the |
Raichand's. He truly loves his parents and
has intense devotion and gratitude for them and would not ever hurt them.
So, all goes well in their happy world till Rahul goes against the wishes of his father
and marries Anjali (Kajol) after Anjali father's (Alok Nath) death. Pooja (Kareena Kapoor)
is Anjali's younger sister who Anjali dotes on. The Raichand's had actually planned
Rahul's wedding with Naina Thapar (Rani Mukherjee) and had publicly announced the |
|
|
same and despite this Rahul marries Anjali who happens to be a
simple girl and no match to the Raichand family. Yashovardhan's ego was bound to get hurt.
This breaks up the family, when Yashovardhan blames Rahul for proving that he is an
adopted son. He |
|
asks Rahul and Anjali to leave the house.
This shatters Nandini and makes Rohan take a vow that he will get his brother back.
Meanwhile, Rohan falls in love with Pooja and together they all decide to reunite their
broken family. This becomes difficult and it is only after a decade or so that
Yashovardhan realises his faults and apologises to his son and make up the lost love. This
is how the story of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is crafted. |

Karan Johar has
proved yet again that he is the best talent Bollywood owns. He has come up with this film
of his after a gap of four years ever since "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and that shows
the amount of dedication, work and effort he has put into this film of his. Kabhi Khushi
Kabhi Gham boasts of the best star cast Bollywood has seen till date. Karan has picked up
the best combinations over three generation. The film has a combination of tear jerking
sequences as well as fun filled comedy that gets the audience crying |
and rolling with laughter as well.
Technically, too the film is of epic proportions. The music by Jatin-Lalit, Sandesh
Shandilya and Aadesh Srivastava is another highlight of the film. Even though the title
track sung by Lata Mangeshkar is the highlight, the other foot-tapping numbers, are
"Shava Shava" and "You are my Soniya". Needless to say , "Bole
Chudiyan" has already captured the hearts of most people long back. |
|
|
Performance wise, Karan has managed to extract the best out of all his stars. Amitabh and
Jaya render heart touching performances and it is a pleasure to see the pair again after a
long long gap of the "Abhiman", "Chupke Chupke" and
"Silsila" days. Shah Rukh Khan sparkles yet again. He performs his role with
extreme poise , class , honesty and maturity. Kajol is great as ever and it is wonderful
to see her again after a long waiting. Hrithik Rodhan dominates in the second half of the
film and delivers one of his best performances till date. Kareena Kapoor is one of the
main highlights of the film and provides all the fun and entertainment the audience need.
Rani Mukherjee leaves a mark in a small but significant role. Farida Jalal, Achala
Sachdev, Sushma Seth, Himani Shivpuri and Johny Lever lend admirable support.
Overall, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham with its massive star cast and extraordinary merits will
prove to be an
unforgettable and memorable experience for all.
