Tera Mera Saath Rahen is all about human relationships. It
is the story of Raj Dixit (Ajay Devgan) and his 14 year old mentally challenged brother
Rahul (Dushyant Wagh). They live among extremely cheerful and |
|
helpful neighbours Mr and Mrs. Gupta (Shivaji Satyam and
Reema Lagoo). Suman (Namrata Shirodkar) is the daughter of the Gupta couple and she is in
love with Raj but Raj isn't. Rahul is totally dependent on Raj for all his needs and Raj
not only understands his needs and desires but also his emotions.
Raj's life takes a turn when his ex-boss Mr. Khanna asks him to meet his niece Madhuri
(Sonali Bendre) who has come from Delhi after a broken |
|
engagement. Within a short span of time both Raj and Madhuri
develop a liking for each and Rahul too takes a fancy for her. Needless to say, Suman is
not happy to see all this.
Madhuri asks Raj to admit Rahul in an institute where "Special" children like
him are educated and made |
wiser and independent. Initially, Raj does not pay heed to
Madhuri's words because he cannot stay away from his brother but after visiting a few
institutions gets convinced, that it is indeed better for Rahul to get admitted in one
such institute than stagnate at home.
Rahul is shocked when he learns this. He refuses to see reason and get admitted to any
such institute. Turning a deaf ear to his unwillingness and hesitation, Raj gets him
admitted. Thereafter, he himself feels very lonely and empty from within and is engulfed
by a sea of turmoil. Does he get |
|
|
Rahul back ? Well, this is what forms the story of "Tera Mera Saath
Rahen".
The film is yet another simplistic and realistic topic touched by Mahesh Manjrekar after
"Vaastav", "Nidaan", "Jis Des Main Ganga Rehta Hai" and
"Astitva". The film shows super performances by the |
|
entire cast but it is Ajay Devgan who steals the show with
his serious and natural looks. It feels as if he is the only person who could have done
justice to this role. Sonali Bendre looks good but has very little to perform. Namrata is
Ok. Dushyant Wagh gives a promising performance as the handicapped sibling. He is just too
good.
The biggest drawback of this film is that Mahesh Majrekar in an effort not |
|
to make this movie very serious has deviated from
the main plot thus concentrating more on comedy and romance. There are a couple of
unnecessary songs which could have been easily deleted. |
Cinematography by Vijay Arora is OK. Dialogues by Deepak
Kulkarni are natural and heart touching.
Overall, the movie is worth a watch and Mahesh Manjrekar indeed deserves a decent pat for
making an effort to highlight such serious and important issues around us which otherwise
goes unthought for. |
