As the title suggests Yajamana is not on leadership or
dictatorship. It is a movie on the responsibility of the elder brother to hold the family
as a single unit.
The elder brother Shankar (Vishnuvardhan) of the family sacrifices even his self-interest
and remains unmarried to educate his younger brothers. Father of the girl who is in love
with elder brother (Vishnuvardhan) challenges his |

attempts.
Ultimately how he comes out successful makes the rest of the movie. This heavily
story-laden movie is filled with family sentiments. Sometimes they even look highly
dramatic and unrealistic. |

Vishnuvardhan’s performance is worthy of praise. He has
got ample scope in this to show his ability to act as both a dignified elder brother and a
happy-to-lucky younger brother, Ganesha. He has justified both the roles. Shashi Kumar
although is talented, does not look so glamorous. Prema and Pavitra Lokesh also have
performed well. Ramesh Bhat and Tennis Krishna come to lighten the mood of the audience by
giving comical relief. Music by Rajesh Ramnath is good.
Director Vikraman has not taken much strain, as it is a remake of
‘Vaanatai Pola’ (Tamil) with very few changes. On the whole, it is a movie with
a message. It drives home the moral that it is not the money and selfishness that should
lead us, it is the love and affection and respect for |
each other that should lead us. This is the key to a
happy and united family. |
