The district headquarters of Uttara Kannada,
Karwar, is 260kms north of Mangalore. Gentle waves, palm-laced beaches, silver sands, calm
peaceful alleys, soft and lovely songs of birds......Yes, Karwar has all the makings of a
perfect and enchanting holiday. Once an important trade centre of the British, French,
Portuguese and the Arabs, this charming town is complemented by glorious weather and an
excellent unspoilt beach which is said to have inspired Rabindranath Tagore to pen his
first play.
The Devbagh Beach is a must for beach lovers. Karwar also has a port protected from the
harsh winds by five islands. Goa is just 100kms north of Karwar.
