Hepatitis

There is no specific treatment for Hepatitis A; the only way to protect against Hepatitis A is through preventive measures.

The best and ideal way to counter Hepatitis A infection is:

  • To maintain high levels of personal and community hygiene in the environment.
  • To ensure provision of safe and clean drinking water, and effective sewage disposable systems.

In recent times vaccination has emerged as an effective and practical means of protection against Hepatitis A. The primary dose protects the person for up to 1 year and a booster dose administered after 6 months provides long-term protection for atleast 20 years. Anybody after the age of one year, who has not been exposed to the infection before can be given this vaccine.
