Directorate of Distance Education, Bangalore University

Bangalore University is one of the largest Universities in Asia, started in the year 1964. Universities today have assumed the responsibility of widening the access of higher education to larger sections of people through Distance Education and Correspondence, External and Open University Schemes. The Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education of Bangalore University was started in the year 1968 as External Courses Department.

The Directorate has a total student strength of about 10,000. It offers educational opportunities to students in various faculties such as Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Diploma streams. All the courses offered by the Directorate are on par with the regular courses offered by the Bangalore University, the Degrees and Diplomas are also awarded by the Bangalore University. It is note worthy to mention here that a number of students belonging to the Directorate have been awarded Degrees with distinction including gold medals in the University Convocations.

Students of the Directorate take up the examinations along with the regular students of Bangalore University. The regulations governing award of class, distinction and gold medals are the same for both regular and Correspondence / External / Open University Scheme students.

They are also offered the Library facilities in the Central College campus for references.

The eligible students belonging to SC/ST/BT communities are awarded the Govt. of India Scholarships through the University.

During January - March of every year, the Directorate Conducts Contact Programme for the enrolled students. This is to ensure that the students are given proper guidance in their subject and also to establish proper interaction between the students and teachers.
Study materials are prepared basically in English language, Kannada study materials are also supplied according to the preference of the students in some subjects.

Keeping in mind the increasing demand for professional courses, the directorate is offering from this Academic year via. 2000-01, the following professional courses:

Diploma in Applied Nutrition and Dietetics (1 year)
Certificate Course in Nutrition and Dietetics (2 year)

Open University		Eligibility
B.A / B.Com	3 Years	Those who have completed 21 years of age as on 1^st July 2000.
M.A. in Kannada, English, History, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Hindi, Philosophy and Urdu.	2 Years	Those who have completed 25 years of age as on 1^st July 2000
M.Com	2 Years	Those who have completed 25 years of age as on 1^st July 2000
Correspondence Course
B.A.	3 Years	A Pass in the Pre-University Course or equivalent examination under 10+2 pattern
B.Com	3 Years	Students who have completed two year Pre-University Course of Karnataka or equivalent examination thereto
BBM	3 Years	A Pass in Pre-University Course of Karnataka or any equivalent examination there to under 10+2 pattern
B.Ed	2 Years	Inservice teachers with 2 or more years of experience in recognised schools in the juridiction of Bangalore University. Jurisdiction of Bangalore University: Bangalore (Rural and Urban), and Tumkur Districts with B.A /B.Sc., degree under 10+2+3 pattern of Bangalore University or any other University recognised as equivalent thereto (Inservice Certificate to be counter – signed by the concerned DDPIs or Block Education Officers).
M.A in Kannada, English, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu	2 Years	B.A / B.Sc., B.Com Degree of any University or equivalent degree thereto (10+2+3) pattern with 55% of Marks in the language concerned under Part –I.
M.A., in History, Economics Sociology, Philosophy	2 Years	B.A., / B.Sc., /B.Com. degree of any University or equivalent degree thereto (10+2+3 pattern) with 40% of marks in the aggregate of the optional subjects and atleast 50% of the marks in the concerned optional or major subjects of the course.
MBA	2 Years	Pass in Bachelor Degree Examination of this University or any other recognised University in Commerce, Management, Arts, Science, Engineering / Technology or equivalent and have secured atleast 50% of marks in the aggregate.
M.Com	2 Years	A pass in B.Com. degree examination of any recognised University or equivalent degree thereto securing not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate in commerce subjects in all the examinations of the B.Com., degree course.
M.Sc., Mathematics	2 Years	A pass in B.Sc., degree of any recognised University or equivalent degree thereto (10+2+3 pattern) securing not less than 40% of marks in aggregate in optional subjects and 50% of marks in Mathematics (Students who have studied Mathematics as minor or subsidiary or optional subjects are not eligible)
Post - Graduate Diploma Courses
Labour Law, Taxation law, Personnel 1 year Management, Business Administration, Marketing Management	1 Years	Any degree of a recognised University or equivalent degree thereto
Translation in Hind	1 Years	Any degree of a recognised University with Hindi as a subject at the degree with a pass in R.B.Visharada or any other equivalent examination recognised thereto
Functional Hindi	1 Years	Any degree of a recognised University with Hindi as one of the subjects or a pass in degree with R.B.Visharada of DHP Sabha, Madras or any other examination equivalent thereto
Applied Nutrition and Dietetics	1 Years	A pass in PUC or equivalent examination with Home Science / Chemistry as an optional subject.
French Translation	1 Years	Any degree of a recognised plus Diploma Superior of the Alliance Franchise of any recognised Institution
External Courses
M.A. in Sanskrit	1 Years	B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com degree of any recognised University or equivalent degree there to (10+2+3 pattern) with 55% marks in Sanskrit language under part-I
M.A. in French	2 Years	B.A /French or B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com with French as Second Language and with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks or B.A. / B.Sc./ B.Com of Bangalore University or any other University recognised as equivalent thereto with Diploma of Superior of the Alliance Francais or any other recognised institution.
Certificate Courses
Nutrition and Dietetics	1 Years	A pass in S.S.L.C or equivalent Examination
Kannada	1 Years	A pass in S.S.L.C. Examination
French, German, Japanese and Italian	1 Years	A pass in Pre-University Examination
