Career in Accounting

The career in accountancy has expanded due to the various changes in our economy. This has resulted in chartered accountants gaining more prominence. They are in great demand during the Financial year end.
The Indian Institution of Chartered Accountants offer training for interested candidates.

Duration of Course: is three years. The source of implementing education is through post and is compulsory. The professional course has two levels, namely the intermediate and final examination and each of these have two groups.

Practical training:- This is done to get first hand experience by working under a chartered accountant. Basically there are two types of training
1. The articled clerk- here the person is a trainee attached to a chartered accountant for a period of three years.
2. The audit clerk - He is basically an employee of the practicing C.A. who will also become a C.A. along with employment. It is a four year training course

Requisition for Practical Training:-
a. The candidate should not be less than 18 years of age.
b. The candidate should have passed the foundation examination of the institute of should have been exempted from passing the foundation examination.
c. The candidate should be a graduate and should pass the entrance examination of the institute.

Foundation course is exempted for the following students.
1. B.Com graduate with 50% aggregate marks.
2. Non-commerce graduate with any subject other than mathematics with 55% aggregate marks.
3. Non-commerce graduates with mathematics as one of the subjects with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

After the completion of course, ones options are many
1. Starting an independent professional practice.
2. Practicing in a firm of chartered accountants.
3. Taking up a suitable position in business or industry.
4. As a consultant in the field of capital market and merchant banking.
5. Starting his / her own industry or business venture.

A chartered accountant with a brilliant academic career can get a starting pay of Rs.12,000 a month and an efficient practising chartered accountant can earn between Rs.60,000 to Rs.90,000.

The chartered accountant must be member of the institute of chartered accountants which is a corporate body, governed by a council consisting of 30 members.
