Lawyers are probably the most ridiculed of all professionals in the world, yet, the fact
remains, that law is a lucrative career option, and a chance for those, so inclined to
uphold truth and justice. If you have a passion for law and if it is you are considering
it as a career option but not too sure about the nitty gritties there are two things you
must immediately do.

Entry into law course requires the completion of 12th Board Exams or its equivalent. The
only criteria for selection being the performance in an entrance test. Questions in the
test (esp. National Law School test) are based on General Knowledge, elementary Maths,
Economics and Arts, subjects, with current political events also given importance. The law
course (esp.National Law School, B'lore Course) is a basic 5 year course after which a
basic B.A, LLB degree is awarded.
In the first two years of the course special attention is given to arts related subjects
such as political science, economics & law related history. The next three years law
itself is taught in detail. On completion of the course an exam has to be written on
completion of which one becomes eligible to enrole in the Bar council of India and to
practise as a lawyer.
Most lawyers either enter the civil or criminal law practices, however with the advent of
multinationals corporate law is fast catching on. Corporate law is basically when huge
corporate giants are clients instead of individuals. All legalities of the company are
taken care of by the lawyer/firm. Since all these multinationals expect the same legal
services available abroad, they are willing to pay good money. As a reputed lawyer, Rahul
Mathum puts it "Civil & Criminal law, involves going to the court, working for
long under senior, trying to establish a reputation before becoming independent, and
basically involves a lot of hard work. Therefore corporate law is a good option
"Where, good money comes faster".
So, as you see, law is a fantastic career option. If you do have that passion in you, go
ahead, do law. No matter how many dirty law jokes you hear it is also one of the most
rewarding & satisfying careers possible!
