Carwash An article |

Our day 6th,Nov.
started out on a rather discordant note. As for a long time we thought that we wouldn't
have enough volunteers to continue with the carwash: However we finally got around to
organizing thirteen volunteers who were willing to give up on their sleep for 'the cause'.
Our volunteers were mainly from MAIS (Mallya Aditi International School) and a few from
Bishop Cotton Girls School.
We started out at 10:30, after splitting up into three groups and worked in different
parts of Lavelle road for the first one and half-hours. We also hit Primrose road, Raj
Mahal Villas and Nandidurg road. Our long day involved long hours of trudging in the hot
sun, washing a number of cars, meeting various kinds of people combined with immense
enthusiasm on all our parts. We organized this fund raiser on behalf of the Action Aid
India Society. There had been a previous carwash held in Indiranagar in early May which
was a great success and once again we came together to raise money for the relief of the
people in Orissa who have been devastated by the cyclone whose effects are still being
felt.
We found we had made approximately Rs. 7,000/- which we handed over to Mrs. Nilima Verma
of Action Aid who will collect all the donations and funds and send them to the
organizations working in Orissa.
At the end of the day, we all agreed that though the day had been long and tiring we all
ended up having a great time. We plan on organizing another fund raiser a few weeks from
now and we would like interested volunteers to contact the following e-mail address:
[email protected] (Uma Anand).
I'd like to thank all the volunteers present who were Amena Zavery (cottons), Sangeetha
Thimmiah(cottons) , Payal Karumbiah (cottons), Shanti Sugandhi (MAIS), Arpitha Patil
(MAIS), Tanvir Singh (MAIS), Prithvi Reddy (MAIS), Angad Ahluwalia (MAIS), Rishi Jalan
(MAIS), Raghu Karnad (MAIS), Ranee Pradhan (MAIS), Sunayana Ganguly (MAIS).
