Art Senze Gallery, will be organizing a Arts and Crafts mela/santhe called ‘Dakshina Santhe’ at its venue at no 8, ‘South Hall’, inside Sweet Chariot Cafeteria compound, near Ganesha temple, Jayanagar 4th block, between 21st to 23rd October 2011.

Art-Senze, is an initiative of Tara Learning Centre which focuses on Arts and Crafts of various disciplines. Art-Senze also promotes Individuals and groups who are involved in innovating new products using traditional crafts and contemporary ideas, who are working with various communities by providing, shelve space in the gallery and also in the santhe s’ which is held on occasions. Also, Art-Senze provides a platform for interaction between the artists, artisans and the common folks. Workshops, regular classes in various disciplines and mela s’/santhes’ both at Art-Sense the other locations will be organized periodically. Furthering the promotion of crafts, The workshops at other locations are also conducted in any social gatherings such as Birthday parties, at corporates and other special events.


Art Senze, will be organizing a Arts and Crafts mela/santhe called ‘Dakshina Santhe’ at its venue at ‘South Hall’, inside Sweet Chariot Cafeteria compound, Jayanagar 4th block, between 21st to 23rd October 2011. It is the first attempt to bring the artisans and organizations who are reviving, experimenting and producing decorative artefacts, utilitarian products using popular as well as endangered crafts in order to meet modern day needs under one roof.

‘Dakshina Santhe’ promises to be unique in the kind of craftsmanship that will be on display. The crafts on display will be stone pottery from the North east, Dry flower art from Meghalaya. Chennapatna craft in its newest 'avatar' of fun craft kits for children. The mela visitors can also look forward to Kalamkari painted sarees and dress materials, Lambadi embroidered items and other ethnic dress materials and designer kurtis.

Art Senze's current in-house focus on terracotta will be seen in the artistic terracotta jewelry as well as items such as pen holders, planter, masks, diyas and garden artefacts etc. Ceramic pottery too will have a presence at the mela in a diverse range of items from the whimsical to the practical.

Nature photography, Traditional Paintings, landscape paintings, Handcrafted Artistic Jewelry, etc are also part of this mela. A wheel at the venue will give an opportunity to visitors to engage with this craft in ways other than just as customers. A portrait section will be offered to budding artists and a fun photo-booth where in the visitors can get their portraits and photographs with props and costumes.

With the mela, Art Senze will be providing a unique platform to organizations as well as individuals and the consumers to interact and understand each other. The organizations namely Dwaraka, Sandur kushala Kendra, Redbug, Suhasini, Vayali Folk Group and individuals Sharon, Rin, Akhila, Thanu, Raviprakash etc are displaying their works in ‘Dakshina Santhe’ 2011.

The Mela may also have something for the musically inclined, through traditional instrumental performance in the evening. There will also be a song writer’s corner, and original musical compositions will be performed then. The mela may also promote identified performing artists and a time slot will be given during the evening for composers of original songs.
