IIMB Computer centers
The computing resources at IIMB include world-class servers and workstations, a state-of-the-art campus network and a reasonable speed dedicated Internet connection. Operating on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis throughout the year, the Center has good support infrastructure in terms of continuous air-conditioning, UPS and a Generator. The servers include a high end Compaq Proliant server (544 MB RAM, 32 GB Disk with RAID) to host SAP R/3 suite of ERP software, a Silicon Graphics Indy workstation (32 MB RAM, 19" Colour Monitor and built-in camera) to host the IIMB Web site, two Compaq Prosignia servers (96 MB RAM, 4 GB Disk) that serve as Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Novell Netware 4.1 servers and two digital Alpha 128/64 MB RAM, 2 GB About 100 units of HP Vectra workstations (Pentium with 32 MB RAM, 1GB Disk) serve the desk to needs of the faculty and students. Another 100 units 486 class machines from Compaq and Acer serve the instructional and infrastructure needs. A fibre optic back-bone network, a high speed Ethernet switch and high speed (100 Mbps) UTP connections with structured cabling for the desktops provide the network environment. Most of the faculty desktops have Inkjet printers and the students mostly use a high speed (HP Laser Jet 5SiMX) laser printer. A Compaq funded Multimedia Lab with 15 multimedia computers, a Microsoft funded University advanced Technology Lab (UATL ), a colour scanner, colour printer (Tektronix Phaser) and HP CD-Writer are other attractions of the Computing Centre. IIMB has strategic partnerships with all IT majors including Microsoft, Intel, Compaq, Novell, Oracle and SAP Disk) UNIX servers.
