IMPROVING THE IMAGE OF
BUILDERS
BAI's image building for its members is attempted in a variety of ways. Some of the
important ones include:
- By working in close co-ordination with institutes and
organizations connected with construction by supporting and co-operating with their
activities and inviting them to join BAI activities.
- By offering the services of members and their officers as guest
faculty to Technical/Educational Institutions.
- To provide facilities for Technical Education and arrange for
faculty and students to visit works of members.
- By providing facilities for training of students and engineers
stand-by attracting "Sandwich" Courses to have training in works near by.
- By participating actively in Seminars and Conferences at
Regional, National and International levels to put forth the views of BAI.
- By making it a point to have press conferences whenever there
is a managing Committee meeting or General Council meeting to reach the public through the
press.
- By organizing All India Builder's Convention once in two years
in different parts of the country to discuss burning problems of builders and to update
their knowledge in construction technology with concurrent exhibitions to highlight the
latest equipments and materials for the benefit of the builders.
Working as a chairman, Local Centre is to oversee all organisational activities and
preside the meetings effectively. Builder's day is celebrated every year in October where
they hold seminars, workshop and invite all the members and prominent personalities.
Awards are presented to Senior Builders, workers, Artizons, carpenters, plumbers, draft
men etc.
One way of remembering the man putting a building together is through observance of the
Builders Day on October 15 every year. The idea was mooted by the BAI some years ago so
that not only in future but also in retrospect the contractors are remembered with
gratitude. The Builder's Day Celebration is to focus on the person giving a concrete shape
to designs on paper. For over 55 years, members of BAI have contributed enormously to the
nation's economic development by helping to produce capital assets on land. There are over
90,000 small & big contractors and builders countrywide. Off these the 10,000 members
of the BAI account for major portion of about Rs.18,000 crores value of works undertaken
annually. That indicates the strength of the organisation and its ability to stand up for
the builder's cause. |
