IN 1941, BUILDER'S
Association of India was formed on the advice of Brigadier Jackson, an Englishmen, and a
chief engineer, MES, Pune. This association was formed to solve and tackle various
problems faced by builders. They have offices all over the country and their head office
is situated in Mumbai.
Democratic elections are held every year. The President, the state level chairman and the
twenty five governing body members are elected by 31st March of every year. Various types
of committees are set up to tackle different issues pertaining to the members and the
building construction industry. The managing committee consists of President, four vice
presidents, one Hon. General Secretary, one Hon. Treasurer, six state Chairman's and
twenty five members.
The general Council Managing Committee are assisted by various advisory Commissions -
- Advisory Commission
- Seminar, Exhibition and Training
- Publication Commission
- Labour and Welfare Commission
- Contract Operations and Contract Condition Revision Commission
- Convention Commission
There are two types of members -
1. A patron member, who pays Rs.7500 for a life time to
become a member for life
2. An ordinary member, who pays Rs.600 every year
The basic criteria's to become a member are, any person who is related to the Real Estate
industry viz. Builders, Land Developers, Promoters, Contractors, Architects, Material
Suppliers, Manufacturers etc, can become members. In some special cases, we do look at the
credential aspect of a company, its standings, reputation etc.
The primary aims and objects of The Builders Association of India are:
- To promote and foster feelings of unity, co-operation and
mutual help and to eliminate unhealthy competition and unfair trade practices among the
contractors.
- To encourage the trade, industry and profession of construction
works and all other ancillary and allied trades and industries.
- To advise and assist the members in technical, non-technical
and legal matters.
- To encourage adoption and promotion of correct business
practices according to ethical code of correct business practices as enumerated in
appendix C to the rules and regulation of the Association and maintain efficiency, dignity
and integrity of the profession.
- To set up arbitration machinery independently or jointly with
other or others for settlement of dispute between members and / or members and non-members
arising out of or in any way connected with or touching the trade and / or services
rendered by such trade and industry.
- To promote the science of building industry, disseminate
relevant information of statistical, technical and other matters and to encourage research
and progress in the trade connected with construction activity.
- To improve and elevate the technical and general knowledge of
persons engaged in or about to be engaged in the building trade or in any employment in
connection therewith by arranging lectures, meetings, seminars etc.,
- To provide means for enabling persons engaged in building trade
and industry and profession to take collective action in all matters concerning the
dignity and interests of the building trade and industry and to initiate and assist all
such action to protect and safeguard the profession of construction and such other trade
connected with building materials.
