Why CP?
- Unlike pollution control where pollutions are transferred from one medium to another, CP attempts to minimize/ eliminate the pollutants.
- It is a preventive strategy to reduce pollution as source.
- Its methodology involves life cycle analysis of a product. It also makes an in-depth study of the process involved and the wastes generated at each step.
- Its techniques may range from simple house keeping practices to technology change.
- It helps in saving costs and enhancing profits.
- It does not involve the implementation of regulatory measures and punitive action on the polluter.
- It does not set standards for industries in general. It views the problems of each industry as a individual case.
- Since it gives importance to the economic costs of pollution prevention the investment in CP measures is low.
