B.A., LL.B.., (Hons.) Degree

  1. Eligibility ........

    A candidate for admission to the Degree Course shall have

    • Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10 + 2) system or an equivalent examination therein securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks in all the core subjects and English language put together and
    • Not completed 20 years of age as on July 1 of the year of admission. Provided in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years as on July 1 of the year of admission. Provided also the Director may relax the age limit up to 21 years in very exceptional cases and report such cases to the Academic Council.
  2. Application for Admission Tests..........

    • Admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) first year shall be on the basis of an All India Admission Test to be conducted each year on the first Sunday in May at such centres as the Admission Committee may decide. The Test ordinarily will be of 2 hours duration mainly with objective type or short answer question of standard expected 10 + 2 students.
    • Application for Admission Tests, can shall be obtained from the Registrar, National Law School of India University, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore - 560 072, by sending a Demand Draft for Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) drawn on the State Bank of India or any other Nationalized bank payable to NLSIU at Bangalore.
    • The filled in application for the Admission Test shall be returned to the Registrar, National Law School of India University on or before the last due as notified, along with a Demand Draft fro Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) being the Admission, Test fee, drawn on the State Bank of India or any other Nationalized bank payable to NLSIU at Bangalore. Provided candidates belonging to the SC/ST are not required to pay the Admission Test Fee of Rs. 100/-.
  3. Admission Procedure.........

    • Admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree programme is based on the merit as assessed through an Admission Test which carrier a maximum of 200 marks.
      Provided in respect of mid students who have passed the qualifying examination they be given a weight age of 10 marks (i.e. 5%), which will be added to the marks obtained at the Admission Test and the Merit List, finalized accordingly.
      Note: The Admission of Foreign nationals however, shall be made based on satisfying the prescribed Academic Qualification and on a review of the academic and co-curricular accomplishments as assessed by the Admission Committee, preference being given to candidates from developing countries. They are exempted from taking the admission test and the rule concerning the age limit.
    • Candidates appearing for the qualifying for the same year of admission shall also be permitted to take the Admission Test but their admission to the course shall be subject to fulfilling the conditions stipulated in Regulation 1 at the time of admission and reduction of documentary evidence.
    • All admissions shall ordinarily be completed before 30th June of every year.
  4. Intake and Reservations......

    The intake capacity for the Degree Programme shall ordinarily be eighty (80) with the following reservation:


    • Scheduled Caste: 15%
    • Scheduled Tribe : 7.5%
  5. Duration and Academic Terms......

    • The duration of the course shall be for a period of Five Academic years.
    • Each Academic year is divided into three academic terms, each term called "Trimester" having an average of 70 working days.
    • The academic terms shall be as announced in advance each year and shall ordinarily be between July-September, October-January and March-June.
  6. Tuition and other fees........

    • National Students:
      Rs 25,000/- for 3 semesters (payable in 3 Installments)
    • International Students:
      $ 1500.00 per annum or its equivalent in Indian Rupees to be paid in three installments.
    • Note:
      Tuition and other fees paid by the students admitted to the course shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
