Aparna Lalji
Popat is undoubtedly the badminton queen of Bangalore and India. Training at the BPL
Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, 22-year-old Aparna achieved her world's best ranking
of 20 in 1999. The Mumbai brought up Aparna has now made Bangalore her base to pursue her
badminton career. Aparna has been in the limelight ever since she finished as the
runner-up in the World Junior Championship at Denmark in 1996. The reigning National
Champion, Aparna has been the top ranked woman badminton player of the country to claim
the crown of the undisputed Queen of Indian badminton.
Her list of achievements include winning the gold medal at the SAARC
championships, winning the French Open in 1998 and enter the various stage of the
International tournaments in the European circuit. India's hopes in the international
scenario to a large extent depends on the performance of Aparna, who will be a possible
contender for the Sydney Olympic Games scheduled to be held later this year. |
