B.N. Chandrika is
another young, budding and aspiring athlete of the state, who specialises in pentathlon,
long jump and high jump under Mr. V.R. Beedu. "Yes, I would like to do one better
than P.T. Usha," she said with a lot of enthusiasm. At a tender age of 14, she has
bagged the gold in the pentathlon and the long jump event, with a bronze in the high jump
event at the junior state championship held in Bangalore during December.
B.N. Chandrika comes from a sporting family with her sister Dinakeshawari, now an
engineering student in electronics, an athlete also. Chandrika is good with her studies
too, but being just 14 years of age has no big career plans, nevertheless is very certain
of making it big in athletics.
She undertakes strenuous training both in the mornings and evenings,
throughout the year for six days a week. She is another talent spotted at the DAC weekend
athletics meet, now training under Beedu for the Indo German Athletic Club. She has ever
since made a lot of progress. Prior to Beedu she had done stints of training with coach
Rai and Lingappa. A ninth standard student at the Baldwin Girls' School, she has won a
number of junior events held in the recent past and is looking to productive years ahead
of her. |
