"Mahatma" which boasts of a star cast of two major stars in the Kannada film
industry, is a total disappointment. The film based on B.R.Chopra's hit film "Aaj Ki
Awaaz" fails to sustain the viewer's interest, as all the things connected to the
film has been done haphazardly. The Director totally fails to convey the essence of the
story and he has also not packed the film with a pacy narration. It looks as if even the
artists did not show enough interest during the making of the film, as seen by their
ordinary performances.
The Director H.Vasu should have atleast changed some portions from the original to suit
today's needs. But whatever little changes he has made looks totally out of place, and it
is certain that he was bogged down by the images of two popular stars in his movie. The
original film had a brilliant cameo by Shafi Inamdar, who played the role of an
investigating crime branch detective. But, in "Mahatma", Ravichandran's role is
portrayed like that of a playboy and a simpleton. Saikumar is made to shout in every
sequence. Even the action sequences look unmatched to the tempo of the story. Shruthi is
wasted. Vijayalakshmi comes and goes of a few sequences with a couple of song sequences.
An avoidable film.
