"Preetsu Thappenilla" comes as a
relief at a time when a series of bad films were released recently. The film is a remake
of Telugu Hit "Tholi Prema" which had also won Andhra State Government Award.
The film has class, substance and good technical values to sustain the interest of the
audience. But, once again the Music of Ravichandran proves a bug bear. Had the Music been
a match to other aspects like a neat narration and good photography, the film would have
been much better. But still, "Preetsu Thappenilla" leaves a good impact after
viewing, not only because it has some freshness but also because of good acting by all the
lead artists.
The film has a thin story alright, but it is basically the narration of a tight script
that is appealing. It is funny, delightful, sweet and also full of emotions. The story is
that of a boy in love with a foreign returned girl, who is highly focused. The girl also
develops a liking to the boy, and neither of them reveal what is inside them to each
other. Several instances will bind their relationship further, and even their families get
closer to each other. The boy confides his desire of marrying the girl to his sister, and
tells her not to reveal it to any one. Menawhile, the girl tries to change the boy and
make him understand his priorities. "you should aim for something and work hard"
the girl says. She also gets a chance to go to Harward for higher studies. When she is
about to leave the country, she reveals her true love to the boy that too in the Airport.
Both of them confide their love to each other. Then the boy says that she has to finish
her studies first, and he would certainly wait for her. Such a simple story has been told
in an interesting fashion. The performance of lead artists Ravichandran and Rachana are
fine. Though Sadhu Kokila and Tennis Krishna have been making a mess of the comedy
sequences in other films, it is certainly rib tickling in some sequences in this film. The
song picturisations are good, but the music could have been a little more lively.
A good film.
