Giving Medicine to Kids
Here are some tips on how to give medicines safely to children.
- Make sure you understand the instructions before leaving the pharmacy.
- Always use good light to reduce risk of giving the wrong medicine or the wrong dose.
- Always use child-resistant caps and lock all medications away from your child.
- Give the correct dose as directed by your pediatrician or on product labeling.
- A pediatric syringe is the most accurate dosing device.
- If your child doesn't like the taste, ask your pharmacist about other dosage forms and flavors.
- Report any adverse effects to the medicine to your health care provider.
- Make sure kids know medicine is not candy.
